Only BGAN can support "true real-time " IP data and e-mail applications that we are accustom to at home or at the office.
It the event that you need the smaller form factor or Omni Directional Antenna capabilities such as communications on board a boat or a moving vehicle then for the lower Bandwidth systems such as Iridium you will need a dedicated "Client-Server" application such as SkyFile for Amos Mail.
Both of these e-mail clients are Windows compatible (sorry no Mac versions) and have been finely tweaked for improved call setup and takedown , data compression and "file resume" functionality that will enhance file transfer by continuing where you left off if the satellite connection has been compromised by bad signal strength. This is the most critical of all the added functionality when blogging and moving larger files and photos. These e-mail clients work wonderfully on these low bandwidth satellite networks where "BASIC" e-mail is a must.
