BROADBAND OVER SATELLITE
Broadband connectivity to the Internet over satellite telephones provides the capability of simultaneous Voice and Internet Data World Wide over Inmarsat BGAN.
These services are available for all uses including Maritime (Fleet Broadband) and Aeronautical (Swift Broadband).
VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminals) is an option for more intensive Data and Voice applications where high usage is needed. These networks therefore have a lower overall usage cost not charged by the minute, keeping the usage (airtime service plan) costs down by implementing "shared" IP satellite circuits. To maintain a higher Quality of Service (QOS) on these shared networks committed minimum bandwidth is added for additional cost. This is absolutely necessary for voice traffic on these circuits (VoIP with CIR (committed information rate)).
